Upgrade to SATAII harddisk?

Hi, all. I am really in the dilemma. Recently my 3 year-old motherboard
could not work any longer and I buy one new(upgrade to) motherboard type 945
GCT and the corresponding SDRAM and CPU (the newest version nowadays).
Unfortunately, I found that perhaps I should change my power equipment to
fit the new ATX 2.x version. Furthermore, because there is only one IDE
portto support 2 IDE equipments to install at the most and I have 2 HDs,
perhaps I have to purchase one SATAII harddisk to fit in the motherboard
(because in the instructions booklet, it says that it is recommended that
one install the HD to the SATA port). If so, the private data will surely be
wiped out before I sold my old HD. or Could I use the old bigger (I have 2
HDs) and remain the smaller one at home(not in use). Plus,I don't want to
buy any "adapter" to the PCI port or other card because I really don't
familiar with them and get into possible troubles.

In all, there are three solutions to that, which one is the best?
1. Buy one SATAII HD which has equivalent capacity with the 2 ones, and sell
out the old 2 IDE HDs.
2. Not buy any new HD, just use the old bigger HD (250G), and leave the
smaller one at home.
3. Any better solutions is really appreciated from you!

Thanks.

Put the bigger IDE hard drive (250G) with the CDROM, on a ribbon cable,
and connect to your available port. You should do a "repair install"
of Windows, as that will give an opportunity to add in any necessary
drivers of the like.

The thing is, the IDE drives are a proven technology, so there
shouldn't be any surprises. At least initially, there is
no additional cost to your computer build.

What you should have, though, is a new SATA drive to use for
backing up the data on the 250GB IDE drive. Drives fail, and
having only the 250GB and no backup, is asking for trouble.
So your next purchase, is at least a drive to be used for
backups.

One option, is to buy a SATA drive, and place it in a USB
enclosure. The benefit of that, is when you do a backup
operation, when it is finished you can disconnect the
disk from the computer and put it in a safe place.
The enclosure should have a fan, for best drive life.

This is an example of a nice enclosure for a SATA disk.
It has connectors on the back, for both SATA and USB2
(use only one interface at a time). This makes your
backup drive a portable one, so it can be put away
when not being used to make a backup copy.

There is also the solution of connecting the 2 hard drives to the
single IDE port and buying a SATA DVD drive. This will eliminate
all of your worries of wiping clean the HD platters, should you
decide to sell the hard drives.

....really meant to write "...and the decision to sell the hard drives."
