Upgrade problem from Win 2000 Pro

Last week I purchased Windows XP Home hoping to upgrade
from my current operating system of Windows 2000 Pro, but
I was unable to do so because the home version doesn't
support upgrade from Win 2000 Pro. So I aborted setup, and
went to the store to exchange the home version for Win XP
Pro. I inserted the CD to install Win XP Pro, and the
setup gave me a message that it doesn't support upgrade
from Windows 2000 Pro. It's as if the setup still thinks
I'm using the Home version. (I should mention that after
aborting the Home version setup, whenever I rebooted my
computer, it asked if I wanted to run Windows XP Home or
Windows 2000 Pro. The home version didn't work, so I
selected 2000 Pro.) I suspect I need to delete remnants of
the initial aborted Windows XP Home install, but I don't
know how. I'm grateful for any help. Thanks.

Doesn't support upgrade from Windows 2000 Pro or doesn't support
upgrades at all? If the latter, you bought an OEM version. You
need a retail version to do an upgrade.

I came across the same problem when trying to load my Windows XP Pro with windows 2000 pro already in the system. When I looked in the store it says Windows XP is the upgrade for Windows 2000 Pro, but it wants to partition the drive to do so. Of course I can't install my Windows XP Pro now because of the bad hard drive I had and the fact that I can't find my Product key code anywhere, think my wife tossed it by accident.
