Upgrade problem from 98SE to XP home

I receive "can not copy MFC42.dll" and "can not copy migisol.exe" to C:\... and when I continue eventually end up with error 5a8ff58h and also 4e8ff58h. When I ran compatibility program I got error 597ff58h?

This is daughters machine with ASUS super socket 7, KC2-400 AMD with a 15GB WD hard drive.

Only cards are nvidia video and no name realtec network card.

Please help if possible

WHilst there is always the probability of hardware issues, concerning reliability of source CD, video card not being properly located or even RAM faults: there is also the likelihood af a worm or Trojan being present.

Do a full scan with a reputable and upto date Anti Virus programme. Even get ALL the worm / trjan removal tools you can find [do a Google] and run these one at a time, until you are 200% sure that the system is free of infections.

Try the upgrade again.
