Is it possible, and legal, to replace Win XP Pro..a pirate copy, with a legal
one using an OEM disk. Any help or pointers to the right place for how-tos
would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Joe

You can try the following:

Change your Product Key without a reinstall to match your
genuine Product Key or COA:

The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for
users attempting to change their current non-genuine Product Key
to a genuine COA sticker or genuine Product Key - all without a reinstall! http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50346&clcid=0x409

Thanks Carey! Exactly what I was hoping for.

This may not work since mot pirated XP versions were based on "Volume License"
keys and OEM keys are different. Usually, following the "repair" re-install
on top of the "pirated" version would normally fix this.
