My daughter had XP-Home on her laptop and purchased the
upgrade to XP-Pro, installed it and activated the
upgrade. After experiencing several problems, she had to
reformat her hard drive and installed the Home version
again but does not want to try Pro again. Since she did
install and activate XP-Pro at one time, but did not
reinstall it, can the upgrade to XP-Pro be installed on
another computer and activated? Don't want to violate any
license agreement, but want to be able to use what was
paid for. Thanks.

Hi,

Yes it can, but it will still require that it "sees" a qualifying operating
system in order to install (this can be Win95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, or XP Home
installation or install disk). There is nothing wrong with using this
now-unused retail version on another machine. You may need to phone in
activation, but all you need to do is explain what was done.

Sure you can, The truth is nobody knows, especially the MS
parrots in here that will tell you what they think the
EULA says , but really have no idea. None of them have a
license to practice law, so all you're getting is a
opinion of a person that knows about as much as you do.

Yes. An Upgrade copy is a retail one and its license allows transfer to
another machine. You just carry on with the installation. When it
comes to activation, if it is more than 120 days since you last did it,
you will find it will go through on the net just like first time. If
not, you will have to phone a toll-free number that will be given, to
explain and swap one long number for another to check back as you type
it in
