Upgrade from XP home edition to professional!

Hi!

I'm about to buy a new computer which have XP home edition installed. I
already have a license of XP professional for my old computer (2 years old).
Is it possible to upgrade from XP home edition to professional using my XP
professional CD so I don't have to reinstall all bundled products or do I
have to format my disc and reinstall everything?

I have read about upgrade installations but I only have the "standard" XP
professional installation CD.

Regards
/Hans

If your version of XP Pro is the retail version, and it is currently not
installed on any other system, you will probably be prompted to make a phone
call activation by a message that this copy of XP has been installed in
excess of it's license agreement. Follow the onscreen prompts and call the
phone number listed on the screen [usually toll free] you only need to tell
them you have changed your hard ware in compliance with the EULA. If it is a
OEM version, the EULA restrictions are limited to the original computer it
is installed and all hardware can be upgraded except the mother board.
I would like to suggest that you purchase your computer with the Pro version
rather than upgrading from the Home version to Pro.
From my research, there is very little difference in price by purchasing a
home version and then upgrading to pro than purchasing the system with the
pro version originally installed. Most people don't factor in their personal
time when evaluating the difference between one version and another. I value
my time at $100 per hour and that is a low estimate in the real world. The
conversion to XP Pro from Home is very close to an hour and when you factor
in the time you researched if you needed Pro over Home.......Well, you can
evaluate it for yourself.
