Upgrade from Windows 98 to XP Home

Upon performing the upgrade process, I get within 13
minuts of the end, when it appears to freeze, and I get an
error "setup cannot process the microsoft unimodem upgrade
pack from microsoft", and to call support, (who aren't
open this late, so I attempt to use their on line support,
using another PC, only to be asked for a PID, Personal or
Product Identification number. When asking how to find
this PID number, it forces you to go into the XP
application, however, as I'm frozen prior to completion of
installation, I can't. No numbers on the box appear to
match thee PID format. Any ideas.

.
nothing in ms public database.

this is usually incompatible files from the old os.

if you dont care what you keep from 98 just do a clean
install ,this may be the only option anyway .since you
are probably too far to backout of the upgrade process
and delete the incompatible files.
