upgrade from win98 to win xp pro- stop error on booting- HELP!!!

Upgraded from win98 to winxp.After installation and rebooting received blue
screen telling me there was a error and windows shutting down.Instruction
were to run chkdsk /f to check hard drive and technical error was
stop:0x0000007B.Need urgent help on how to resolve this issue.Have checked
previous posting in this forum and microsoft knowledge base with no luck in
finding a solution.Can anyone out there help with step by step instruction on
a fix or how i can reinstall win 98.
