After having numerous problems going from Windows 2000 Professional to XP
Home (Had to eventually boot from Win 98 CD) and having done a clean install
3 times, my monitor resolution is stuck at 640 x 480 and I cannot get
operational on a hardwired ethernet LAN (no access on that machine to my
DSL/router/internet. I don't know if the problems are related or if I've done
something wrong . . . Any suggestions?

Have you installed the latest drivers for your video adapter and network
adapter? You should be able to download these drivers from your computer
manufacturer's support web site.

Also, take a look in Device Manager (Start -> Run -> devmgmt.msc). Any items
with yellow exclamation points next to them need to have the correct drivers
installed so they will work properly.

If you're not sure what hardware is installed on your machine, you can use a
program such as Belarc Advisor to find out.

If you're still having problems, post back with info on your computer. Include
make and model #.

Good luck

Not able to get onto internet to download drivers from Dell (model GX260)
because networking not recognized

If you're not able to get on the internet how are you posting a message to this
newsgroup?

If you can, download the drivers from a different computer, work, family member,
friend. Put the drivers on a USB flash drive or CD.

If that's not an option, post back with the information from the Service Tag on
your Dell. The Service Tag is a bar coded sticker with a seven character
alphanumeric code attached to your computer. Also, let me know if the email
address you're using to access the MS discussion site is legit and if you have a
way of accessing this email account. Note: Don't post your actual email address
in any response. That's a good way to become a spam target.

Good luck

Did a reformat of the hard drive-still could not get things right so I
finally gave in and took the machine to a local shop. They had it ready the
next day. They said they had to use a USB hub to connect (to internet) to
get the drivers from Dell. It work fine now. Screen resolution fine and
wired ethernet connection works like it should.

Thanks for the update.
