Upgrade from Outlook 2000 to 2003 to a new computer

I have followed the directions in Microsoftt Office Assistance "Reconnect
your old Outlook data file" to a tee, however when I get to "access the old
Outlook data file" using ....FILE/OPEN/OUTLOOK DATAFILE, the data is, as
suggested is added to a second set of Personal Folders. The trouble is this:
the data is not added to the first Personal Folder (the one with the
clock/house icon that also has Outlook today). Instead it is added to a
Personal Folder that has the "numerous folder" icon (no OUtlook Today). As I
proceed with the instructions and get to "Saying goodbye to the unwanted data
file"...which is the first Personal Folder (with no data and the Outlook
today icon), I am unable to close it as the option to "Close Personal
Folders" is grayed out.
I have tried recreating profiles through CONTROL PANEL/MAIL as well as
within OUTLOOK, all to no avail. Can anybody help?

You have to set the second pst file as the default delivery location in
Control Panel-Mail. Once you have done that, THEN you can remove the first
pst file.

Thank you - this helped remove the duplicate Personal Folders file (I had to
exit and reenter Outlook for it to work), however, my Contacts - which were
previously in Folders and Subfolders are now listed without subfolder
delineation. Can this be corrected?

You'll probably need to re-create the sub folders in Contacts....

As a rider;
By connecting to your old pst (OL2k) you are using the old pst format, which
has a size issue.
You may well wish to create a new OL2003 format pst and copy data from old
to new.
NB Do NOT import/export

Probably because you are using the Contacts view, which shows all Contacts
folders, no matter their true level, at the same level in the view. Switch
to the Folder List view and you should see your hierarchy.
