Upgrade from ME?

1) I bought an XP upgrade for my ME system. Should I do the "upgrade" or a
"clean install"? I don't mind reinstalling my few apps.

2) Should I partition the drive to make one for the OS and one for docs?
How?

3) What happens to a 2nd (slave) drive in the same box? Will I be able to
access it after the upgrade and eventually revise it's fat to ntfs?

Thanks

1.. As long as you have a full ME CD, go for clean install..

2.. Depends on the size of the drive.. if the drive is 20gb or less, format
the drive as one partition only, and use your slave drive for document
storage..

3.. By using the slave drive as document storage, you will get over the
problem of losing all in the event of primary drive failure..

I forgot to say that you should also run the XP CD in ME briefly.. if you
let the CD autostart, it will present you with a menu.. select option 4 to
run a compatibility check on your hardware/software.. you do not need to be
connected to the internet to do this..

Remember that to do the updates, you will need to be able to connect back to
the net so it very important that you have the appropriate drivers for
whatever you use to connect..

Frank also warned against doing a clean install if your machine is a laptop,
and he is not wrong.. laptops have their own architecture depending upon
manufacturer and are quite the most incompatible of all computers.. best to
check with the laptop manufacturer website to see if any XP support is
available..

Good tips. It's a desktop with common h/w and cable modem, so I'll do a
clean install. I ran the compatibility check from microsoft and it only
mentioned new drivers for printers, so no big....
Thanks

you can still full install with the upgrade cd (format/blank/new hdd); just have
the WinME CD handy when it asks for it to check for a complying product to
upgrade from.
