Is there anyway that I can upgrade my computer from
Windows XP Home Edition to Windows XP Pro edition
without a total re-format of my hard drive?

Yes, just use the XP Pro upgrade CD, or even a full version if you have it.
Start the install from within XP home, and it will ask you if you want to
upgrade.
Home to Pro is actually one of the easier upgrades to do. Just remember that
if you have SP1 installed in Home, you are going to have to re-install it
again after you do the upgrade.

Yes. Simply purchase and use the WinXP Pro Upgrade CD.

Yes - use the XP Pro Upgrade CD (it does not mention Home on the box,
but does it) and run it from the existing Home system, to install and
continue with Upgrade.
