Hey y'all.
I need assistance with an upgrade of my Emachine T3256 from XP Home to
XP Pro. The reason for this is because I have this program that will
only run on XP Pro and above.
I bought the XP Pro CD, but I did not have much success with the
upgrade. I ran the setup, chose the Upgrade Option, then the Online
Update, and setup started copying files successfully. However, upon
restarting the first time, I got the error that " Setup cannot find the
Windows Installation you are trying to Upgrade".
At the same time, I could not boot back to XP Home as some files were
missing. I had to use the Emachine Restore DVD to recover back to XP
Home.
Can anyone assist with suggestions on how I can go about the upgrade?
Any assistance will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Did you buy the XP Pro retail edition or the OEM edition? The OEM edition is
not designed for "upgrades", ony fresh installs.

Secondly, considering you already had to do a recovery, odds are that the
system is not very friendly anymore anyway, compared to how you had it
before the recovery. Perhaps now is a good time to do a completely fresh
install by booting from the Pro Cd, deleting and recreating the disk
partition, formatting and installing.

Before you take Frankster's advice, be sure you have copies of all the hardware drivers that are
normally on the E-Machine restore disk. Go to E-Machine's web site and download all the hardware
drivers for your model and put them on a CD or USB drive.
E-Machines are not very user friendly to upgrades as you have found out.
