Hi I have a 2 year old Dell Laptop and I only use it for the internet and
play games like Oblivion and Condemend.

So I have a 360 and heard if i have vista i can get games like Halo 2 and
play that and get achievements and stuff. And thought I may as well as I can
get Home Basic for cheap.

So before I order it I have a few questions.

1, I done the Windows Vista Upgrade Test and it says one thing before I
uprade to vista is to delete some stuff as i only have 12GB disc space and
I need 15 GB. So am going to get rid of some stuff so I can get some space
back. But then if I update to vista will I even have any space on my Laptop
to even install Halo 2 or anything?

2, Is there any problems with Vista I need to know about?

3, I was told when i buy Vista it will give me a 30 day trial of vista to
see if I am satisfied with it is this true?

Please reply back with as much info as possible please as I really wanna
upgrade to vista thanks.

While the evidence is anecdotal, we are seeing a lot of issues with Vista
and games. Most of what I've seen has been with people who upgraded to
Vista so some of the issue may have something to do with older hardware.
Nonetheless, it is something you should factor in to your thinking.

You haven't given us any specs, processor, memory, hard drive capacity,
whether or not your laptop is sharing graphics memory with main system
memory and this information is necessary if we are to give you a fair
analysis. It would appear you are very tight for space on your hard drive.

Regardless of what the upgrade advisor told you, you need to realize, that
is only a guide. You should check out manufacturer websites for all your
hardware, both internal and external to see if they have Vista compatible
drivers for all your hardware or if they are even supporting your hardware
in Vista. You should do the same with your software, check application
websites for compatibility of your software versions with Vista and/or if
the developer is even supporting the app in Vista.

Vista is not trialware but you do have certain rights of return within the
first 30 days. How that is covered may vary by retailer and you may need to
go to Microsoft directly. You can find out more about that at the following

Where shall I start.

Seriously, DO NOT UPGRADE TO VISTA.

Laptops often require special drivers for graphics, sound cards, and other
devices.

It may be that for your 2 year old Dell nobody has got round to creating
Vista drivers for some of the components in your laptop, so although the
upgrade MAY go ok you may find that some hardware in your laptop does not
work.

I built a PC about a year ago from standard parts and twice now I have tried
to "upgrade" (ha ha) to Vista and it has failed both times.

I have had to do a complete re-install of Windows XP (and I work in the
computer industry and have a LOT of computer knowledge).

So if you want Vista go out and buy a new Laptop with Vista on it.

If you try and upgrade to Vista you WILL get problems.

You have been warned.

And if you dont believe me read this:

Or search in google for "Vista upgrade disaster" or phrases like that.

Vista was shipped AT LEAST a year before it was ready, still has loads of
bugs, and I would wait until service pack 1 comes out before even
considering an upgrade.

I still think it is best to buy a new laptop with Vista on it than to risk
an upgrade.

Thanks guys I have decided to sell this laptop and get one for about £400
with Vista all ready one it I thank you all again.
