Updating my XP Pro installation

I have recently uninstalled IIS from my XP Pro machine. I have a stand alone
version of XP that came with SP2. I went back the other day and was just
going to update my install off the XP CD. Ok during this update I wanted to
re-install IIS and a few other packages that are available on this CD. During
the installation process it asks me for the SP2 CD. Well I dont have a
seperate CD with the Service pack on it. It's incorperated into the install
and exists as a CAb file on the Genuine MS XP Pro CD. I expanded the SP.CAB
file into a directory on the HD and then used Nero 7.0 Ultra to create a cd
with all of then service pack files on it in the folder I386.
It still cannot find the files that it needs to finish. What am I doing
wrong? I thought that the updates that I were trying to add should use the
SP2.CAB file if necessary during the install. I was wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Sid Saxon

I'm not sure but one option is to download the full version of SP2 and burn
it to CD or order the SP2 CD from MS for the cost of shipping.

Download Windows Service Pack 2 Standalone Version

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD

I downloaded and expanded this file (windowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe) and
expanded it to a directory and then wrote to a cd. It put all of the files in
a I386 folder. I then reran the windows update to include IIS , and A few
more pkgs. and when it needed the files off the SP2 cd the files do not show
up. They are there because I went to explorer and looked.
I will still just ordewr the cd I guess. I just did not think I should have
to.

Thanks for the help, Sid Saxon

I don't know why it didn't work. Did you try just burning the downloaded
installation file, without expanding, to CD and insert that?

I did not but that would be my next step.
I did not have this problem when I used the add/remove windows components
before.
The only real component that I really wanted was IIS. I'm going to be
teaching myself how to publish and maintain web sites useing IIS. I currently
maintain 2 web sites using MS Frontpage and Java, VBscript, etc. and just
upload the updated files using either FTP or HTTP interface.
I do appreciate the help very much. I ordered the SP2 cd today 10/07 and
will just wait and see if that's culprit or not. I have a list of other
questions involving HD configuration problems.
Where do I need to post the OS or HD questions I have. It involves IDE and
SATA drives and the way the drive letters were mapped after a restore after
an OS problem. I'll gather all the data I need to make my questions as
understandable as possible.
Thanks Again Rock,

I was going to try that next.
I just purchased the SP2 CD today 10-07 and will see if that is the problem
when I receive it.
I have not had this problem in the past when using add/remove windows
components.
So having the CD may or maynot be the correct answer.
Thanks Again Rock,

P.S. - I need some help with some HD mapping and some problems that I'm
having with the way that XP mapped the drives after a restore process.
Do I post those questions here? or should they be posted to another forum?
