For some reason, when using Outlook 2003 with IMAP
servers, when I switch to different folders (with alot of
messages), I get this message 'Updating Cached Headers'.
I sometime have to wait at least 2min before the message
pops up. Is there some way I can disable this or let it
run in the backgroud?

This is normal behavior if you're working online against the IMAP mailbox.
You can set Outlook to work offline with the File | Work Offline command.

This is Outlook 2003, there is no File, Work Offline
option.

There should be, just as there was in Outlook 2002. Try resetting your menu
toolbar.
