Short of stopping automatic updates completely, how do I stop MS from
setting my defaults to Microsoft Office Outlook and IE? I have it set to FF2
and Outlook Express, but whenever XP does it's automatic updates(where it
doesnt even ask me, then restarts on its own in the middle of the night) IE
and MOO are set as the default. It is really quite annoying.

Turn off auto then, and you can do it manually by custom. You may find some
help also with this site to alter some of your settings
