I am connected to an msn account through a dsl and keep
getting email notices that there is an update for
windowsxp or outlook express.

My question is - does Microsoft send out patches through
the email. I get no such notification using the windows
update using internet explorer. I understand that the
Blaster worm comes as an email notification of a critical
update

MS NEVER sends attachments. Any email you get from "ms" that has an
attachment is a virus. These emails should be deleted immediately. Do not
run any patches from email.
BTW - the blaster worm doesn't come in email, it gets on your computer from
you not securing your computer correctly with a firewall.

No, Microsoft never e-mails updates or patches. These are virus or trojan
files. Do NOT run them.
