Updated Sigmatel Audio Drivers for SP1

Chupacabra

Since Vista SP1 says it won't offer to install if you have the following:

For x86-based computers: Stwrt.sys - version 6.10.5511.0 or earlier
For x64-based computers: Stwrt64.sys - version 6.10.5511.0 or earlier

Anyone know where to get drivers later than this? I have a Dell, and their
site only has the 5511 drivers. Dell says they aren't shipping SP1 yet,
therefore they have no updated drivers.

Appreciate any pointers to some newer drivers for this card...

Determine the exact specification of the motherboard and go to that
manufacturer's website. Their chipset drivers could include the latest
sound driver you need.

Already did that. It's a Dell, they make their own motherboards. I haven't
been able to find any drivers newer than 5511 on any other sites either.

Hi, Chupacabra.

What did Dell Tech Support say when you asked them?

Well then you are just gonna have to wait on Dell to come up with updated
drivers.

Blame Dell for their lackadaisical support.

I have a Dell XPS410 with the same driver version. I downloaded the full sp1
(~444mb 32bit) file and installed it when I noticed SP1 wasn't offered in
WU. The install went fine, using the same version driver ( version
6.10.5511.0) that was on before nd the sound is working fine.

Another suggestion from the Dell Forums in Support/Vista that has worked is
to uninstall the Sigmatel driver via Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall a
Program, reboot and SP1 should be offered. Be aware that if you have that
file (stwrt.sys for 32bit) in a Dell drivers folder, you will want to delete
that folder and any other folders with that file prior to rebooting. When
you see SP1 offered, the install should work and install the Vista Sigmatel
driver.

Good Luck.

Chupacabra,

I also have the Sigmatel sound card using the above listed driver. I
had no problems installing SP1 and no problems with the sound card after the
installation of SP1. Everything works just fine.
I have provided a link for the latest Sigmatel driver below. It's
probably the same driver you have on your machine. You can try downloading
the driver in the link, uninstalling your current driver and letting your
system install the driver in the link. You should reboot to be sure
everything is OK. Once you uninstall your current driver the new driver will
be automatically installed with no input from you.
Let me know if this helps you.

FYI: I have exactly the same problem with Gateway. Their Tech Support says
there's no newer version available than the 6.10.5405.0 on their website,
which is obviously older than Dell's 5511 and whatever SP1 is looking for.

Hello,
I have a dell xps m1330 laptop and I have the SigmaTel High Definition
Audio CODEC 6.10.0.5614 driver version. I installed SP1 via windows update
succesfully 2h ago and as far as I know I have no problems. The sigmatel
driver update I think was found via windows update also. I also needed to go
to UPEC site for the latest driver for the biometric reader and after that
the SP1 magically appeared!
