Updated from W2K Pro TO xp Pro - seem to have Dual Boot as Result ?

I have just updated from W2K Pro to XPPro using the MS Update CD.

I notice that I still have the Folder "Winnt" in the C: drive and ,
also when I boot into Windows I get a choice of W2K or XP Pro .

Does this mean my PC has now got a Dual Boot configuration as a result
of this Upgrade ?

If so , how do I get rid of all traces of W2K and have the PC solely
as an XP Pro machine ?

Do you have an Windows folder?

If so delete the Winnt folder. Then

start>run and type

msconfig

Go to the Boot.ini tab, and then Click "Check All Boot Paths".

Good Luck

Hi,

Means you chose "new installation" rather than the upgrade. You will likely
need to reinstall software under the new installation. If the Win2K boot
option still works, then you can still go back and upgrade. Either that or
you can just delete the Win2K system folders and deal with just the new
installation (if you go back and upgrade, then you can delete the folder
used for the new installation).

Yes. You ran it from the 2K system, and changed Upgrade to New Install,
thus setting up a second system, dual booted. If you have done this so
that they are in the same partition I would recommend either deleting
the XP partition and its entry in boot.ini. and doing it again as an
upgrade over the 2K, so as to retain installed software, or starting
right over clean, booting the XP CD and in new install hitting ESC so
as to delete the present partition and make a new one. Sharing a
partition is not good news. Confusions will arise over common
components in Program Files, if nothing else
