WordWeb is a cut-down version of the WordWeb Pro that is free for
personal use. It includes a comprehensive English thesaurus and
dictionary, and can be used to look up words from within most
programs. Other features:
Definitions and synonyms
Proper nouns
Related words
Pronunciations
140 000 root words
115 000 synonym sets

http://wordweb.info/free/

It says 4.0 there, but the download is actually v. 4.5a (22th April).
Don't know what's new though.

Probably a few new words defined.

By the way, I notice that if you click on where it says "wordweb.info"
(I'm using version 4.01) your browser opens a window advertising WordWeb
Pro. Also, if you click on Help/About, there's a button that says
"WordWeb Pro..."

Personally, I don't have a problem with that button at all. Would have
been nice the link on the main window had been left out though.

I call this kind of software "PROmotionware" because it promotes the pro
version with that link on the main window.

PROmotionware is often discussed and recommended in this group. I don't
consider PROmotionware to be nagware, because it doesn't open a nag
window that must be closed in order to proceed.

However, if a program is too obnoxious about promoting the the Pro
version, then I would call it Adware.

I don't reply to trolls like Andy Mabbett or Doc (who uses sock puppets)
for instance. No adware, cdware, commercial software, crippleware,
demoware, nagware, PROmotionware, shareware, spyware, time-limited
software, trialware, viruses or warez for me, please.

Have you ever succeeded in determining how many angels may dance on the
head of a pin?
