Update shutdown message

When I shut down my computer, I get a message stating that an update is being
performed and not to turn off or shut down my computer, that it will shut
down automatically. However, nothing happens, no matter how long I wait.

I have gone to the Windows update site and it shows 3 critical updates that
have not been performed, but when I try to perform them, they won't install.

Anyone have an idea?
