Update re-boot nag won't go away after 2 re-boots

Yesterday (6/12) downloaded recent updates for W2K SP4, but the tray nag
wouldn't re-boot the machine. Did so twice with Start>shutdown, but nag
still nagging while not re-booting when that option is chosen.

Now, I can no longer re-boot with Start>shutdown or reach Shutdown
orTaskmaster with Ctl-Alt-Del to shut it down or check what might be wrong.
How do I get out of this?

I'm not sure if they still offer support for Win2K (I used to
have a similar problem but in my case, when the prompt to restart
was chosen, nothing would happen. I'd have to select not to
restart, and then restart later), but there's a free support
number for problems following update installation:
1 - 866 - PCSAFETY

Thank you. W2K is a relatively new program and it is a real Operating
System, not like Vista or XP. So Vista like XP is not a replacement and I
haven't heard of anything in the works. Of course there is 2003, but there
doesn't seem to be a big jump. In any event, why would they be analyzing the
system and then recommending updates that wouldn't work for the program they
are analyzing?

Finally, I was unable to re-boot by any method; could not bring up
Taskmaster. My computer was essentially locked up. I had to turn off the
power. Now it's back to normal, but I don't like that way of re-booting.
I'm going to be very skeptical of any new updates. But if I try them and
this reoccurs, I'll try the phone number you listed. Thanks.
