Update query

I update a number field from excel into a update query.
This could be a few times a day. This number is how many
parts have been received on an order. So at times it is a
partial order. If the order is for 2 and 1 comes in today
and another comes in tomorrow I don't want the second days
total to be 1 I want it to show the total of both days. I
know this is simple but I'm pretty simple.

I'm not sure I understand. At what point is the information that a
part has been received updated? Where - in Access, or in Excel? If you
are repeatedly overwriting the field, Access will not be able to
"remember" what the value was yesterday!
