Update problem

For some reason I am unable to update defender. The auto update comes down
and says installed, but I am stuck on 2/5/06. When I try to remove old defs
by run msi etc etc it says the installer package is invalid. I uninstalled
cleared all traces and reinstalled - same problem. When I try to update
manualy for some reason my "a" drive whirls and defender comes back with an
error, directing me to run msi etc etc. I am getting dizzy going round in
circles. Why would defender try to access the "a" drive instead of the
internet?

You can repair Windows Defender.
First exit WD; using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Click WD and
click Change. Click Next, and then click Updªte.

I also cannot update defender. will not use it as a tool and IE will not use
untill microsoft repairs this simple proglems.

Ok I fixed by reinstalling a previous image of my HDD and on reflection it
may have been caused by using the spycar test programme
