Paint.NET v2.2 Alpha 1

Overview :

Paint.NET is image and photo manipulation software designed to be used on
computers that run Windows XP or 2000. Paint.NET is jointly developed at
Washington State University with additional help from Microsoft, and is
meant to be a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with
all Windows operating systems. The programming language used to create
Paint.NET is C#, with GDI+ extensions. Paint.NET has many of the powerful
features that expensive commercial applications have, including the
ability to use layers. This is the second semester that Paint.NET has
been a project at Washington State University, and we have the goal of
adding as much functionality as expensive commercial applications
provide, but of course, for free! In the spirit of all this freedom, we
welcome any suggestions, as well as provide the source code free of
charge for anyone who wishes to tinker with it. Please explore this
website, download the software and try out many of the things you would
do on those expensive commercial applications.

What's New:

The following features have been implemented, and thus 100% confirmed to
be in this upcoming release:
# Localization support, including the ability to distribute 3rd-party
"Language Packs"
# German translation
# Scaling and rotation of selected pixels
# Ability to modify a selection using union and subtraction, as well as
'xor'
# Unobtrusive notification of new updates, and the ability install them
simply by clicking an "Install" button
# Measurements and rulers in inches and centimeters, as well as pixels
# Brush preview circle when using paintbrush, erase, clone stamp, and
recolor tools
# Ability to change origin of shape or selection while drawing via
holding down the other mouse button
# Much more intuitive 'constrain to circle' behavior for Ellipse Shape
and Ellipse Selection tools
# Holding down the spacebar allows panning the image, regardless of which
tool is selected
# Shift+mouse wheel now scrolls horizontally
# GIF transparency support
# TGA file format support
# Dramatically faster scrolling performance
# Much faster performance when working with simple rectangle selections
# Much faster performance when zoomed-in on an image.
# Blur effect is much faster (2-4x)
# New effect: Add Noise
# New adjustment: Sepia
# Brightness and Contrast adjustment now work with luminance, and not
RGB, scaling. This produces more correct results.
# New Rotate/Zoom user interface that allows 3D rotation, tilting, and
image tiling
# Further performance optimizations, especially for dual-core CPUs
(Athlon X2, Pentium D)
The following features will not make it into this release, but we are
still considering them for future releases:
# Gradients
# Multiple documents open in one instance of Paint.NET (MDI or tabs)
