Update or Patch related to KB952044

Ted Moseley

I am continually receiving notices on my security scans about KB952044
related to Windows Defender not being installed on my Vista Enterprise
machines. When I look on the support site, I see the article and sure
enough, the Windows Defender is affected, but for the life of me, I can't
find any patches anywhere on the site. This is for a system that is on a
stand-alone network that cannot be attached to the public infrastructure and
use the automatic update system.

Any advice is greatly appreciated as I need to close this issue.

I can see why this would be confusing.

As I understand it, if you are current on definitions, you will also have
the engine update which includes the fix for this vulnerabilty.

You can determine this by going to Help, About, and checking the engine
version, which should be 1.1.3520.0 or higher.

If you are not at this version go to the security
portal---www.microsoft.com/security/portal and download the definitions for
Windows Defender--usually 32-bit, but if you know you need the 64 bit
version, use those.

Run the download--and that should bring you current on definitions and the
engine.

Thanks Bill,

I'm almost embarrased to admit that not only did I recognize that that might
fix the problem and had even done the download - then just got buried in
other things and apparently forgot to actually do the install.

Thanks again.
