Here's what's new in Firefox 1.0.1:
* Improved stability
* International Domain Names are now displayed as punycode.

To show International Domain Names in Unicode, set the
"network.IDN_show_punycode" preference to false.

* Several security fixes.

Here is a more detailed what is fixed

Just thought I post this bit of into from the official firefix
instruction page:

"All Systems

* Prior to installing Firefox 1.0.1, please ensure that the
directory you've chosen to install into is clean and doesn't contain any
previous Firefox installations."

I've never quite been sure that I understand the instructions for removing
and older version of Firefox prior to installing a new one. I want to
retain all of my existing bookmarks and settings so, now please somebody
correct me if I'm wrong here, what I should do instead of uninstalling via
Add/Remove Programs is just *delete* the Firefox install folder? Not a
proper uninstall, but a delete? And then just install the newer version
and it will automatically access my pre-existing Profiles Folder?

I've read the instructions at the above page on several occasions, but the
procedure has never been clear to me.

Thanks for any assistance/clarification,
Ian.

Hi Ian,
you have to uninstall via Add/Remove Programs, but you won't lose anything
of your settings and bookmarks, because they are stored in your profile
folder, that remaines untouched.

Instead, if you have plugins and/or search plugins you want to keep, before
installing copy their folders (i.e. the \plugins and \searchplugins
subfolders of the Mozilla Firefox folder) to another place, and then copy
them back over the new ones of v1.0.1.
Yesterday I installed this way and I still have all my settings as before
:)

Using Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Firefox should leave your
profiles (with all your settings and bookmarks) intact.

Disclaimer: I use the zip Firefox packages rather than the exe
installers, so I haven't used Add/Remove myself. I only know what I
read in the Firefox newsgroup.

Here is how I do it .
Rename the Mozilla Firefox folder ( mine is in > Windows Explorer
Local Disk(D) > Program Files ) to Mozilla Firefoxold (
right click on the folder & add old )

Now install the new version , everything is OK , including my old
Extesions .

If you are not happy with the new version , reverse the process .
In other words , rename the new version & remove the word old
from the previous version .

Many thanks to MLQ and »Q« for the helpful replies. I really was confused
about the proper procedure, wasn't I? I uninstalled Firefox via
Add/Remove programs and installed Firefox 1.01 just minutes ago and, as
you both indicated, all of my preferences and bookmarks are still in
place.

As it so happens, my initials are the same as Maria Luisa's, MLC. And
my nickname Q comes from the first syllable of my last name. I've
gotten used to seeing my initials on her posts, but if you start to
call her MLQ it will slowly drive me mad. ;)

Anyway, I'm glad it's all sorted and it working for you. :)

just tried your method and it installed without any problems, everything
intact. By the way after you find out that everything is working as it
should, can you delete the folder that you changed the named to "old"?

I offer my sincere apologies for the typo, along with my sincere wishes
that the two of you will be very happy together.

I think you'd come out much worse than I in that marriage!

The thing that would be driving me mad would be the Atlantic Ocean
between us. ;)
