the description of this change sounds confusing to me; why would i want to
relinquish the ability to change a linked excel table used in Access.
changes to occur occationally and errors are detected that warrants a change
in the linked file.

why would i want to
relinquish the ability

maybe you don't.

KB Article 904953, under "More Information"
"....Because of legal issues, Microsoft has disabled the functionality in
Access 2003 and in Access 2002 that let users change the data in linked
tables that point to a range in an Excel workbook..."

Sounds like this "fix" didn't originate with MS software engineers but with
MS legal.

HTH,

Hmmm...apparently I did (probably automatic update as I don't recall manually
doing this) and now my Access database is bollixed because it had several
features which (used to) allow updates to linked spreadsheets. Is there any
way to uninstall the update, short of reinstalling (in my case) Office 2002?

t.i.a.
