Hello, any help with this will be much appreciated.

Late last night I was just shutting down the computer when windows starts to
update, i didnt even know what it was updating since while the computer was
supposed to be shutting down I was getting a DVD ready to watch (heh, i know
shouldnt have) so when I notice my laptop isnt shutting down I go to it and
its updating or something...since I had no idea what was going on I quickly
shut the pc down in the middle of an update (remember i didnt know it was an
update).

So then I come back to my computer this morning and all that comes is my
wallpaper, no icons, no taskbar no nothing. My only form of navigation is
through file > new task via ctrl alt del. (Currently i am on another
computer). I've tried alot. I managed to get my internet browser up through
the way i just mentioned, but then I found I cant download the neccessary
update from the website since i was in firefox...and IE is not installed (not
deliberatly...whole other story why im using FF not IE). I was thinking i
could system restore it, but since i dont have a task bar with 'start' i dont
know how to get to system restore. Or is there a way of getting these up
dates off the net from this computer, putting them on cd, and installing them
on my laptop??? Please help me :(

To run system restore open a command prompt from ctrl-alt-del | new task
| cmd | Ok. Type in the following command:
c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

That should bring up the SR gui. Restore to a previous date from there.

Thanks but that still didnt work (system restore i mean). Its weird because
the computer is working but I just dont have the taskbar and icons. Any clues
on how to get my taskbar back?
