Update Corp Version

I

info

Sorry is this has been gone over before, but I purchased and installed
about 30 "corporate" versions of XP and now when I try to do an
update, MS tells me that I can't/number invalid BUT that it's a
corporate version that was probably used to install a large number...
yadda, yadda, yadda in essence telling me I'm legit (I am) BUT not
letting me update.

Did I miss something along the way?

I've been told that this is a pirated version - the ones that have
told me that haven't read or visited MS's site.

Am I going to have to "upgrade" to XP Pro? Which I also own as I don't
work for the company anymore?

The version you have installed is not valid since the license
belonged to the company you worked for and not you.
What you need to do is purchase a "Full Version" of
"Windows XP Professional" and perform a "Repair Install".
You'll need to purchase a new copy for each computer.

Not this time . Also read what Bruce posted here. It is very evident.
That your opinion not mine. I will stick to what I posted before in
this thread. I would not trust Carey.

Your are assuming the copy was bought incorrectly. It maybe legit
version(S) detected as illegal version. Don't say that can not
happen. It does,

What even worse Wga is detecting some pirated version as legit.

Brilliant answer - where did you paste that from?

I'd rather not get into (again) a fight/flame war....

************* snip ****************************
The company I work for has 10 + licences, some of which (the off site
installations using WU v6 instead of v4 mainly) also would not update
despite being entirely legitimate. I told the affected people how to
use the work arounds or to bring the PCs in where possible so I could
install the needed updates myself. I have wasted many hours in the
last month on this issue and am less than amused with crap "party
line" answers.

How DO you update?

This is BLOODY legit and yes I AM tired of everyone accusing me of a
pirated copy and that NO a Corp version exists - yet when a quick
look on MS site and - gee, there it is.
As it happens my company would have been far less affected had we been
using pirate OS as I would not have wasted days checking serial
numbers and installation keys I would just have used one of the many
work - arounds and got on with more important stuff.
Amen.

Windows Genuine Advantage?

My Arse!

Mind you the huge overtime payment yesterday was a pleasant side
effect.

Agreed...........

SO what IS the workaround? NOT a repair install - I'll stick with SP1
and when I get it from someone else SP2 network install and be done.

After 30+ years this is where we've ended up?

Microsoft is pretty good at picking up the install keys from the pirated
software. Where did you purchase your 30 "corporate" installs from (BTW,
there is no such animal as Windows XP corporate. That is the underworld talk
for pirated.). If you didn't obtain a valid "volume license" from Microsoft,
you didn't get the real thing and your money was wasted.

Check the Miscrosoft site.

If, and I'm not saying anything about it, you have a legit version, all
you have to do is call MS and get support for it. At the worst, if it's
something you cause they will charge you a fee, if not, they will not
charge you.

Also, if you have a "Corp" version you likely already have free support
that you can use - call and ask MS what's going on.

Please provide a link. I have been selling and installing OEM, retail and
volume Windows licenses for quite a while. Other than pirate versions I have
never heard of a corporate version. It may be you just have your terminology
mixed up and you indeed have a volume license. If you do you should have a
link to the volume license web site and a phone number to the local
Microsoft office where your problem can be rectified. This link allows you
to add more licenses and manage your volume account. If you don't have or
have lost the link then contact the Microsoft office for whatever country
you are in. With a volume license you get one key to use with all your
installs. If you have multiple keys for a "corporate" version you have
pirated software. Complain to whoever sold it to you.

If the OP had bought volume licenses, the reference would have been to
'volume license' and NOT 'corporate', which is the term for pirated copies
of XP Pro..

I really do not care what Carey calls me. I have supported
Microsoft since the mid-1980's and I have moved many users
from Unix to MS-DOS and on to Windows, from 2.0 through XP.
I can comfortably retire on the Microsoft shares that I have
been acquiring since the stock went public in the 1980's. I
just hope that controversy like this does not cheapen it.

For all the years that I have worked with computers, since
1970's, we have our own jargon which gets perfused into the
community. And I know of many "volume" purchasers who still
call their versions of Windows "corporate". Purchasers from
the centers I deal with still ask for "corporate" discounts
and we know that the right wording should be "volume". And
even when I place orders through the distribution affiliates,
some of their sales staff even call "volume licenses" as
"corporate".

It's time to cut some slack for the OP's, help them out in
the best way at resolving their problems and get out of this
and not get involved into any controversy. There isn't any.

Microsoft website said op the had a corporate version. Microsoft does
detect some legit version as a pirated computer.

People using legal version of previous operating system call it a
corporate version and may mean the volume license version.

Should have gone with Apple Macs.................Sigh!

Bring back 3.1 eh

This work around is the one I used for August, may not work this time
cos M$ say they will fix it, IMHO I would leave it alone until WGA
does what it is supposed to do properly.

May help to remove WGA first and start from scratch.

Go to M$ Download site via Windows Update.

Go through the WGA installation process until you get to the point
where WGA is ready to go and you are ready to click "Express" or
"Custom"

At this point shut Windows Updates down and open IE

Tools > Manage Add ons > look for the Windows Genuine Advantage
ActiveX control and disable it.

Re run Windows updates and it will by-pass WGA allowing you to
download and install critical updates.

Another work around is update it via a corporate admin (lol) network
update system, that version still uses WUv4 which does work correctly.

Another is to get the updates from another PCs' Windows > Software
Distribution > Downloads folder. Not tried that myself but it should
work in theory.

Yet another is to download updates from here
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/index.html

There are also numerous java script fixes out there google them
various kinds all do the same thing.

Want any more let me know.

Check the Miscrosoft site.

As others have already posted: Post the link.

Either put up or shut up. MS has NEVER produced a "Corporate Version"
of ANY of their software.

I beg to differ. According to another poster and a website their
was a corporate version for older operating systems. Windows 98se had
a corporate license.

There was never a Corporate version. I want that person to post the URL for that. He cannot because there is none aside from Warez which is a site for getting a good dose of Malware unto your system

A Corporate License and a Corporate version is two different animals.

Thank you - I think between us we've more experience then the lot
around here - I remember getting into 50° "vaults" to get mainframes
running.
