Bullets & Numbering

Hi,

I'm using Word 2003, I know I can customize Bullets and Numberings but what
I cannot seem to be able to do is create a combination of the two.

For Example:
The body text will have...
Yadda Yadda Yadda* Yadda Yadda. Madda Madda** Madda.

Then at the end of the document...
* Ref 1:
** Ref 2:
*** Ref 3:

As shown above, I'd like to have a character, the *, and the numbers to both
increase incrementally for each new bulleted section.

I'm sure I'm going to be told it's not possible but I would think that with
some sort of coding it could be.

I _think_ that what you want to do is to insert Endnotes. If you want
the Endnote references in the text to just be ever-increasing numbers
of asterisks (or bullet characters), then choose "Custom" markers in
the endnote-formatting panel that shows up when you do Insert |
Reference | Footnote, and type only a single asterisk (or bullet, or
whatever) in the box. (You can restart the sequence on every page; if
you don't do that, and you have, say, 20 references, there are going
to be an awful lot of asterisks on the last page.)

You can then format your Endnote Text style with Numbering, and type
Ref. in the box for the format of the Numbering number. (IIRC you get
that box when you use Outline Numbering but not when you do plain
Numbering, so just use Outline Numbering that has only one level. Be
sure to click "More" and associate Level 1 with Endnote Text style.)

Ahhhh, insert endnotes. Now that I have not tried before. BTW, it was my
intension to change the caracter (*) to yet another one (†) then (‡) when it
became more than 5 consecutively. Luckly I'll only have, at most, 8 Refs that
I'm trying to do.

In that case, just use the built-in setting for *, ?, ? number format.
