Upcoming Silverfast Release for the Epson 3170

In case you didn't see it in alt.comp.periphs.scanner, a person stating to
be with Lasersoft claimed that Silverfast Ai and SE "will soon support the
Perfection 3170 as well as the 1670 and the Perfection 1250/1260.Expect the
release for those scanners to be there in 2-3 weeks."

This will be interesting, given that someone mentioned here a while back
that the 3170 is re-badged to Epson and uses non-Epson proprietary commands.

As it happens I get good results from the Epson scanning software.

Epson has libraries on Windows and Mac OS X that translate standard
Epson ESC/I commands into the particular commands that the 3170 uses.

I need to reverse-engineer the calls to these libraries, but it
looks like it's doable.
