Two days ago my computer crashed.
I have Norton anti-virus and I always kept my Mircrosoft
up-dates current.
I was trying to use my computer as a DVD player (run the
movie through my computer to show on TV) when it crashed.
(set it up wrong and didn't have enough memory for all
the programs I had running, (lap-top) I think? Or could
this have been the result of the virus?)
I had to do a Windows recovery and all that went well
till I decided not to install my anti-virus software on
my computer till after I down-loaded the up-date for SP1.
(SP1 up-date says to disable virus software during
installation)
BIG mistake!
I was downloading the SP1 when I started getting
the "System shut down" messages. I also had to download
my internet porvider connection stuff so I'm not sure
WHERE or HOW I got the virus.
It didn't take much time!
1 hour of not having my patches and anti-virus software
on, is all it took for me to get the virus.
My question is how can I download the up-date for SP1
without disabling my virus software?
Should I just keep what I have? All the patches and
secrurity up-dates are on SP1 but I'm afraid to run it
without the anti-virus program.
What do I do?
Help! Thanks, Linda

Linda,

You need to enable XP's built in firewall. With an upprotected system,
you're being hit by the MSBlaster virus or one of its variants.

See Help and Support and search for "firewall"
