Unwanted Superscript Degree Sign

I have used every version of Word since Word for Windows 1.0 to 2003. I have
had this problem since Word 97 and have seen it on a friend's Word 2003.
Sometimes, but not always, when I type the signs : or ; Word inserts an
Unwanted Superscript Degree Sign before it. Also, I have Word insert curly
quote marks which usually works, but sometimes I can only get those ugly <<
and >> quotes with an Unwanted Superscript Degree Sign before it. How do I
stop the an Unwanted Superscript Degree Signs?
Thanks.

If it's a non-breaking space, it may appear and disappear as you click ¶ on
the standard toolbar to toggle nonprinting characters, and it should not
print.

Putting "forced space before colon" and "quote marks as <<" together
suggests that the cause of the problem is a keyboard layout that is set to
international English or some other language.

So, Zoonotics, check your keyboard layout settings. I'm afraid I don't know
how you would do that, so ask Windows Help how, or wait for another post.

That "degree symbol" could be a non-breaking space.
