Unwanted start up programs

A

Al

Several unwanted programs appear to start themselves upon
boot up.

In previous versions of Windows there was system
configuration utility with a Startup tab that allowed a
user to "uncheck" programs on a list, thereby preventing
them from starting automatically.

Is there a similar facility in W2K?

msconfig.exe. You should be able to do a search and find it. Also, you can
look under the registry.

Do a search for run or runonce in the registry and you should see the
entries.

You can either download it or copy the msconfig utility from an XP machine
and it will work on W2K

Thanks: I went to the download web pages and searched for
msconfig under W2K and XP and couldn't find it.

Is it part of something else?

Got this from another respondant.

Hi Al,

I had the same problem not so long back and someone sent
me the msconfig.exe
(See attached) all you need do is unzip it, and it is
ready to use, no
installation or messing about. It works a treat mate.

Just in case you want the web site, here it is:

There is also another program that does the same thing
(apparently), but as
I am happy with the one above I have not tried it, but, in
case you want to
here is web address:

http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

Good luck Al.

Dave
