unwanted login screen

I just completed a Windows XP upgrade and ever since,
whenever I power up my PC, I get a login screen. There
is the Owner Icon that I can click on and the system will
complete it's power up.

I want to eliminate this screen and go directly into
Windows XP like I did before.

I've tried different things in the User Accounts located
in the Control Panel but I haven't hit upon the solution
yet. I am afraid to try any more changes in User
Accounts.

I did visit this web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;282866&Product=winxp#toc

after contacting Gateway, but I don't see the solution to
my problem. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Lynn Lutton

Thanks for replying, Wes.
That was the same screen I previously had seen.

The first choice was to eliminate the Welcome Screen. That one is wrong as I see it because then I would have to input a password. I definitely don't want that.

The second choice if I remember it, was to turn off any guest accounts. That was already turned off.

I don't remember if there were other choices but I didn't see a choice to eliminate the login.

If you can think of anything else, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Lynn

Hello Ramesh;

"After downloading fixes from Microsoft Windows Update page or via Automatic
Updates, you may notice Welcome Screen appearing at startup [previously it
used to go to Desktop directly]."

That certainly has to apply. :o)

Again, thanks for your replies. I don't see the answer I'm looking for yet. All I've seen so far is how to change or delete user, guest, or administrator accounts. What I'm looking for is how to get back to where I was before the last Windows XP upgrade; No welcome screen where I have to click on Owner to enter Windows XP. Right now, if I eliminate the Welcome screen, I then have to enter a password. That's even worse than now when I have click on the owner icon. My son thought I could change User Accounts in the Control Panel to make all users have the same responsibilties and that would eliminate the welcome screen. It makes sense but I couldn't see where to do that

I liked Wes' post as the web site has a way to change the login data without editing the registry but so far I haven't seen what I'm looking for. I would be more willing to change the registry if these sites had a change description I was looking for. Maybe they do but I haven't seen it yey. I will keep looking. In the meantime in case you do think of something, I'll keep checking the newsgroup
Thanks so much
Lyn

Here is the solution for my problem. This in case anyone reading this post wants to know how to resolve it

Problem
Since my last Windows XP update last week, I get the Welcome screen whenever I boot up. I then have to click on the Owner icon to complete the boot-up. I'd like to get back to booting directly up to XP without seeing the Welcome screen. All the solutions I've seen so far only deal with changing logon accounts

Solution
You probably installed the .net framework, and this update creates a new user account (which you can delete) and causes this issue. Start > Run "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes). Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply > ok and follow the prompts to set up a default logon
