unwanted icons in my lower screen taskbar

I have an unwanted taskbar icon and I can not delete it. I pops up with "you
have a virus, please download our virus protection now". well I know this
is not a good thing but how do I get rid of it... I was successful in
deleting one icon that was related to this other one.. but this one will not
go away. It blinks off and on and a screen mentioned above pops up randomly.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Run a spy/adware cleaning program like SoftSpy, SoftSpySE etc or
Spy_Bot (a freebee)
