Unwanted help windows

Hi

I'm using Windows XP on an HP Pavilion ze5400 laptop. In
the last few days whenever I use any software - Office,
Outlook, even Freecell - a help window opens unbidden
every few minutes. I can't find a way to stop this
happening, nor do I know why it started.

Any ideas?

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show?
