Unwanted file opens at start up

Help! Just upgrated to XP. All is well except every time
I start up a directory window opens up. I close it and it
stays closed during shut down, but the next start up it's
back.
How do I make it go away.

You didn't say what folder?

Check:
Start/Run/control folders/View/Uncheck Restore previous folder windows
at logon
