I made a post some time back on the nt newsgroup and
didn't read the spam announcement before posting. Since
then I get about 60 to 70 emails a day, most have
virus's. Is there a way to get my email address removed
from the newsgroup posting in order to eliminate the
spam???
I used to use the news groups periodically and never had
this problem. It's a shame spammers try to ruin whats
good in the internet and we need to cover our tracks or
don't use it

I doubt it and even if you get it removed, engines like google keep them. I
agree they are a damn nusiance and it about time something was done about
it. Europe is considering bringing in tough spamming laws but unfortunately
the USA is not, so spamming will continue. I guess the best way to stop it
is if everybody just deletes it and certainly never does anything with a
soam email that gives them money . If they don't get any income I guess they
will just get bored - but then again virus makers do it just to be annoying.

That is like closing the gate after the horse got out! The spammers already
have your address. As you have found out, never post with your real address.

Your address was harvested by a spammer(bot) and then put on a "list". These
lists get bought and sold between internet companies all the time. There is
no way to get off the "list" the spammer makes or buys. Unsubscribe in the
emails sometimes helps, but sometimes makes it worse cause now they know
your email address is valid. The only way to stop the current spam is to
change your email address. Then once changed give it to no one, except
friends and family. NEVER use it online or to sign up for anything, on
newsgroups, on your personal website, or shopping online, or warranty cards,
or rebates, fire insurance, or on party ammouncements, etc.... (you get the
point, ONLY friends and family). Set up a free web based email account for
other things. If you stay strict about this you will NEVER get spam again. I
get maybe one or two spam emails a year, thats it.(and that's only cause I
occationally broke my own rules).

....also, tell the aforementioned friends&family to make use of the lovely
BCC field when sending out mass mailings - people need to get used to the
idea that an e-mail address should be considered similar to an unlisted
telephone number.

Thanks for the tip. I did not know what the bcc was for and never bothered
to see what it did. Now I see it hides the recipients address. Very nice,
thanks.

BCC rocks. ;-) Just make sure to put sometihng in the TO field, also - like
your own address - or the message may get blocked as spam.
