unwanted duplication of files

Every time I delete a file in My Documents it obediently
goes to the recycle bin, but at the same time one or more
duplicates are created, the result being a accelerating
cancerous growth of files impossible to get rid of.
It all seemed to start after I downloaded + installed the
SP2, which has also seriously slowed down the start-up
every morning.
I'd like to go back to SP1, but it was erased with the new
SP.

You mean you told it not to make a backup? You CAN uninstall SP2 through
Add/Remove programs, but you are just delaying your issue.

I think Kelly may be by later with an answer to your issue - or you could
search the newsgroups for it..
