unwanted behavior when saving files created with templates

after having created and saved a file created with a template - I re-open the
file for review and editing. When closing the file without changes I'm
prompted as to whether I wish to save the underlying template file. I always
want the template files to remain unchanged. How do I get rid of this
additional prompt? TIA.

Thank you for your reply. The behavior persists when I start Word in safe
mode. I use about 30 templates to create different agency orders. None of
them contain macros. I have no "add-ons" to Word and the normal.dot file does
not contain an auto-open macro. Any other ideas?

The problem arises on every document produced from a template file. All of
the documents and all of the template files are effected. Any clue as to why
this behavior?
