Unwanted archiving

Yesterday all my e mails saved, Inbox, sent items and Deleted were removed
from Windows mail and stored in a file

C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail which I do not want!

I can still receive and send etc, but it is like starting all over again.

Does anyone know how I can return them to where they were

That is the default location of the user's message store. If they got moved
there, then where were they before? See the section on Windows Mail here:

Windows Mail does not archive messages.

For each of those mail folders, make sure you have selected
"Show All Messages" rather than "Hide Read Messages".

If that was already selected, which antivirus are you running?
Some of them are not fully compatible with Windows Mail.
