Unusual Drive Mapping Problem

I can ping computer "Foo" just fine and I can map Foo's shared folders
just fine from a large variety of computers.

Sometimes, I can ping "Foo" (using its IP address) but Windows Explorer
cannot find it, nor can it map Foo's shared folders. I know Foo is up
and running and healthy.

Windows Explorer just replies that "Foo" (WWW.XXX.YYY.ZZZ) cannot be
found so there is no useful information for me to debug with.

So, what might be going on?
Or more importantly, how can I get more diagnostic info about these
failures?
