Unsupported Video Card

Hi, A friends PC delivers the following error when trying to play games (Rise
& Fall Civilizations at war..for example).

Unsupported video card

Your card does not support pixel shaders.

To me it soundss like the graphics card is not good enough for current
demands from new games. Before I advise them to upgrade, does anyone know for
sure that the card will need upgrading or is there some settings they can
alter to get around this problem. Not sure what card they have installed, but
their system was bought from a supermarket (Tesco, UK).

Many thanks,

A.

www.belarc.com and download the Belarc Advisor. When it's run you will be
provided a listing of all the hardware and software installed. Then you can
determine the video card manufacturer and see if there are updated drivers.

They've probably got a GeForce 4 MX. Which technologically speaking is a
GeForce 2 (no pixel shaders). They may also have an intergrated chipset,
you could try updating the video drivers, but I'm doubtful that will help.

A GeForce 3 and up (exluding the MX series) or Radeon 8500 and up have pixel
shaders, so as long as they meet the rest of the requirements any of those
cards will do the job.
