Unstable XP with svchost popup errors at boot

My PC is quite unstable for sometime now. I constantly get a svchost
pop-up error:

The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000".
The
memory could not be "written".

Today, while updating another PC, Windows Update has stated that an
option software Windows Powershell 1.0 was available. I looked at the
details and it was release March 24, 2009. This is about the date
that my problem started.

Can the Powershell cause this???

Uninstall that update and find out!

Uninstall that update and find out!

That just it, with Microsoft's kb926140 article, it states:

Uninstall Windows PowerShell

You cannot install Windows PowerShell 1.0 if it is already installed.
To determine whether Windows PowerShell 1.0 is installed, locate the
Install registry entry in the following registry path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Powershell\1\Install

Based on this, how would I uninstall it?

The usual way is by using Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs. Make
sure "Show updates" is checked. Is Powershell 1.0 in that list. Did you
go to that registry path? My guess is that it was installed already.

Sorry, but this is on my "home" PC and I am at work today.
Unfortunately, my svchost "pop-up" errors appear to have blocked my
remote access today. I will check this evening.

You would have had to choose to install Windows Powershell (and why v1.0 is
being pushed when v2.x has been out for a while is anybody's guess).

In any event, no, I'd doubt very much Powershell (if installed) had anything
to do with the error. Hijackware's more likely.

I just was able to check my system and I do not have Powershell 1.0
yet. So I will concentrate on my porblem elsewhere.
