Unseen disk space

Mike Goldenberg

Windows doesn't see correctly how much free disk space a
hard disk has. I've been deleting large files in an effort
to free up space, but Windows still thinks it has the
original (low) amount of space. This has persisted through
reboots, disk cleanings, Norton's Disk Doctor, etc.
How do I fix this?

How large is each partition / drive and how much free space?

I suggest you Enable Show Hidden Files and Folders. To enable show hidden
files select Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings
and place a check before Show Hidden Files and Folders. Next Enter Windows Explorer and place the cursor on each drive letter in turn, right click and select Properties.

Also Norton can create "Protected Storage" back up files which you may not be seeing!

How good is your housekeeping?

1. In Outlook Express empty your Deleted Items folder.

2. In Outlook Express run File, Folder, Compact All whilst OFFLINE.

3. Remove Temporary Internet Files by selecting Start, Control Panel, Internet Options, General tab, Delete Files and check box for "Delete all offline content".

4. Empty Recycle Bin.

5. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Hope this helps.
