Bob

I use AOL as my ISP. I just installed win XP with
Service Pack 1. I m getting email from friends that have
attachments with the extender .eml. When I try and open
them up Outlook express comes up and then leaves a msg
that says "removed access to the following unsafe
attachments" "XXXXXXXX.eml"
I never had this problem running win ME or 98SE. So can
someone help me get these open?
I checked with AOL and they dont support this extender.

TOOLS menu|OPTIONS|SECURITY

UNcheck the "attachments" box.

Hi Bob,

In OE go to Tools/Options/Security and uncheck Do not allow attachments.....

Go to tools, options, security and uncheck the box that says do not allow
attachments, etc.

Thanks Bruce,

It is best to save attachments to disk and then scan them with the AV before
opening them. I have had one virus on my machine. That was caused by my
setting up a new HD and had not yet opted out of the preview in OE. I
clicked my e-mail and BOOM, oh,well.

Also, it's called an "extension", not an "extender".
Knowing the right terminology can make a big differance when asking for
help.

Greetings --

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect you. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment actually
contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of those file
types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option, assuming
you trust the source, of course. The wiser course of action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:
