Unreadable JPG files

Hi
I produce JPG file pictures with a Nikon D40 camera.
Now I have some pictures, where Windows XP File Explorer does not show
picture information (Camera model, Dimensions etc.), and I can not read and
show these pictures.
I have 117 files in the folder, and 5 of the files are OK; but the rest are
unreadable. All photos are taken at the same event and with the same camera
settings.

Does anyone have a suggestion of, what is wrong and what to do?

The camera memory card is suspect.
In general, one should use the camera, not a PC to erase and format a camera
memory card. Just use the PC tocopy files (without eraseing them).
The files in question may be recoverable, there are utilities that may be
able to do so. I do not recommend any software, and leave that to others.
